about

These recordings are the youngest of my beasts of sound. Artistically speaking. They are actually my very oldest. This is all from when I was a schoolboy. Some of it's tasty some of it's pretty juvenile. Most of it was recorded with a small microphone next to a Fender guitar amp with a little reverb hooked up to my computer and Fasttracker 2 on a Compaq Presario running Win 95/DOS. This is all early versions of songs, or THE ONLY recordings of many songs not on the archives. It's a weird ever changing musical noise adventure.

I made this as a huge compilation tape for my dad as a present for... I honestly don't remember if it was his birthday or Father's Day but this is the kind of thing I give when I really want to give them something but I'm a broke kid.

So I gave it to him in a hand painted red box and he really liked it. There's a lot I don't care about anymore here, but the novelty still stirs up a chuckle or amuses me.

Early sampling experiments with guitar and beating surfaces with random objects, vocal tones as instruments, samples drawn randomly from old films, TV shows, and radio. The results on some of those are great, like "Just Dead," "The Field Of War," and "Going Mad," and "He Didn't Fly," is one of my least favorites. But now I'm careful and more responsible with using only my own sound sources, or things obscurely unidentifiable or public, but it's all here for the sake of completeness and preservation.

Also noteworthy about this tape are the last remaining recordings of the very FIRST EVER tracks I sequenced, when I was a kid in sixth grade, maybe 1996. Some really weird pieces. Really weird. I made these often dark, minimal, horror soundtrackish music pieces on a beta .MOD sequencer for Mac called Meditor, that I downloaded from old school 1995 America Online back when they never stopped sending you those stupid installation CD-ROMs in the mail, on my mom's Macintosh Quadra 650 (she was an amazing graphic artist in the 80's and 90's so a Mac was the computer to have for that back then.) I taped them on a boombox next to the speaker so I could listen to them or show them to someone, and eventually the external hard drive that was a black magnetic tape cartridge completely crashed, and I lost everything but the bootleg I made. Pressure Clown Toledo, Washington

Myweirdmusic is a thing I've been doing here and there off and on since I was a kid in 6th grade. It's sequenced on old DOS tracker programs and it's mostly derived from samples of sounds I made, older stuff samples films, the radio. One uses SEGA Genesis sounds for the beats. Guitar, kazoo, beat box, whatever I had to do to accomplish the idea. Thanks for supporting my mad scientist orchestrations ... more
